About Rebel Threads
1. The Rebel Behind the Seams
I’m Sasha Howell—costume alchemist, educator, and lifelong fabric nerd. I’ve been costuming stages for 16 years and teaching people how to express themselves through fashion and identity. Rebel Threads is the dream I’ve been sewing together one hemline, heartbreak, and hot glue gun burn at a time.
This space is my love letter to all the misfits, perfectionists, punk hearts, recovering overachievers, and anyone who ever needed permission to try—even if you’re “bad at it.” Spoiler: we’re all bad at stuff sometimes. That’s the point. This is where you get to show up anyway.
2. The Innovation
Rebel Threads is the Northland’s first fashion maker space—a creative playground for experimenting, learning, messing up, and making things that matter.
Under one roof, we’ve got:
Classes that blend craft with identity, history, and joy
A costume archive with pieces to rent or remix
Professional sewing machines, tools, and workstations for makers at every level
Events, parties, and workshops that get loud, weird, and inspired
3. What We Do
At Rebel Threads, we:
Alter & Restore – Mending and tailoring with creativity and care (because clothes carry stories).
Design & Outfit – Rentals and custom builds for the stage, the street, or your next costume party.
Teach & Empower – Classes and camps for total beginners, bold experimenters, and anyone ready to make something real.
Equip & Collaborate – From solo studio time to sip-and-sew nights, we’ve got the gear, space, and energy to fuel your next idea.
4. Core Values (a.k.a. Our House Rules)
Come As You Are
We don’t gatekeep style, skill, or self-expression. Show up real.Creative Reuse
Scraps become statements. Trash becomes treasure. Upcycle everything.Skill Liberation
You’re allowed to suck. Perfection is boring—progress is powerful.Community > Competition
We’re not here to impress. We’re here to build each other up.Joy in the Process
We celebrate mistakes, messy stitches, and wild ideas. That’s the good stuff.
5. Why It Matters
This isn’t just a place to sew—it’s a place to get loud, get messy, and make something that feels like you.
We’ve saved literal tons of fabric from the landfill.
Hundreds of folks have stitched their first garment here.
Our costume archive has dressed theater productions, dance shows, Halloween parades, and drag brunches.
And the ripple effects? Creative confidence. Community roots. New stories told through threads.
